Vishwamitra's India - Part 1

Vishwamitra was a famous sage (yogi) of the Vedic period.   Vishwamitra was a very majestic and brilliant great man.  According to mythological religious texts, it is believed that he ruled successfully for many years. Vishwamitra was counted among the heroic and famous kings of his time. Before taking the sage religion, he was a great mighty and Prajavatsal king. There is hardly anyone like Maharishi Vishwamitra in terms of purushartha, true passion, enterprise and dignity of tenacity. He attained Brahmatva from Kshatriyahood with his effort, with the strength of his penance, from Rajarshi to Brahmarshi, to Revered by gods and sages. Vishwamitra was ranked second among the Saptarishis. With the strength of his penance and yoga, he also became revered by all.

Vishwamitra was rich in penance. Gayatri-Mata was perfect to him and he received his full grace. Vishwamitra did impossible tasks like sending new creation and trishanku to heaven etc. and attaining the post of Brahmarishi.

The third mandala of the ten mandalas of the Rig Veda, which has 62 suktas, is the seer of all these suktas, sage Vishwamitra.

Vishwamitra ji was the son of Gadhi. The word Vishwamitra is derived from vishwa and mitra which means friendship or love with all. One day King Vishwamitra went to the ashram of Vashishtha Rishi with his army. Vishwamitra ji bowed to him and sat there. Vashishtha ji gave due respect to Vishwamitra ji and requested him to stay in the ashram for a few days and take hospitality. Considering that I have a huge army with me and Vashishtha ji would have trouble in hospitalizing me with the army, Vishwamitra ji humbly asked for permission to go, but on the excessive request of Vashishtha ji, he accepted his hospitality for a few days.

Vashishtha ji invoked Nandini Gau and arranged six types of dishes and all kinds of comforts for Vishwamitra and his army. Vishwamitra and all those who came with him were very happy with the hospitality of Vashishtha ji.

Seeing the miracle of Nandini cow, Vishwamitra asked that cow from Vashishtha ji, but Vashishtha ji said Rajan! This cow is my life and I cannot give it to anyone at any cost.

On this kind of saying of Vashishtha ji, Vishwamitra forcibly ordered to catch that cow and his soldiers started beating that cow with a stick. Nandini Gau got angry and freed her bondage from those soldiers and came to Vashishtha ji and started lamenting. Vashishtha ji said, "O Nandini! This king is my guest, so I cannot curse him and because he has a huge army, he cannot win even in war. I feel constrained. Hearing his words, Nandini said, "O Brahmarshi! You command me, I will destroy this Kshatriya king in a moment along with his huge army. Seeing no other solution, Vashishtha ji allowed Nandini.

As soon as she got the command, Nandini produced mighty warriors with very powerful weapons with yoga power, who soon started cutting the enemy army like carrot radish. Seeing the destruction of his army, Vishwamitra's hundred sons were very angry and ran to kill Vashishtha ji. Vashishtha ji consumed all the rest except one of them son.

Vishwamitra was very sad due to the destruction of his army and sons. After handing over the throne to his remaining son, he went to the kandras of the Himalayas to do penance. By doing rigorous penance, Vishwamitra ji pleased Mahadev ji and received the boon of knowledge of the entire archery with divine powers from him.
